at time of writing the trevi fountain is a building site - reports needed in a year's time when its fountaining again
the spanish steps is not in that much better shape- but we suppose its still the space young people like to go in the evening
Churches - you will wont be allowed in if you are a woman and wearing anything that shows your shoulders of your knees. Solution bring a couple of warps for both parts. A few churches are kind enough to offer free paper-made wraps but most wont let you in however long you queued
Notes On Vatican-
Usually it will take about 20 minutes to get into saint peters
Sunday's go if you want to hear the pope speak to the people which he does on many sundays at midday- least good day to see saint peters itself unless you are attending a mass
Vatican museum - use web site to pre-book

Borghese museum - not you will need to book several days ahead even if you have bought the share museums of rome ticket
Churches-dont ever go to a church on the afternoon before festival day- it will likely be closed. If you want to attend a mass at the pantheon get their early- one a service starts, they close their doors on everyone even if you want to join the mass
