Amitav worked as a General Manager in the office of the CEO & MD at Ranbaxy Laboratories prior to his switch over to the development sector. Amitav began his post MBA career in the USA working for Bristol Myers Squibb & Co. based in Princeton. He managed a part of their Oncology portfolio and was also responsible for setting up their office in Mumbai, India in 2003. He started as part of a small team of 2 expat employees from the US who worked closely with McKinsey & Co. to establish the India entity and left for Delhi in 2005 when the company had over 100 employees. Amitav has been part of his family-run food processing business since 1994. In 2004, he diversified the portfolio to include real estate development in the state of Punjab. Amitav was educated at the Doon School, Dehra Dun and went on to study Economics at the St. Stephens College, Delhi University. He got his MBA from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and worked in the US for 4 years before returning home. He is actively involved in the capacity of Trustee/Director with various philanthropic organisations involving education, spirituality and children. Snorre Westgaard is the Chief Executive Officer of Humana People to People India (HPPI). He has been associated with HPPI for the last 13 years, and as a CEO since 2007. Previous to his posting in India, he worked as Humana People to People Director for TCE – Total Control of the Epidemic from 2000 to 2004, overseeing and directing the programme in four countries of Southern Africa, reaching at that time 2 million people with behavioral change communication addressing HIV/AIDS. From 1998 to 2000 Snorre Westgaard worked from the newly established Head Quarters of the Federation for Associations connected to the International Humana People to People Movement in Shamva Zimbabwe, providing technical support to members for projects within HIV/AIDS and Child Aid. From 1981 to 1997, Snorre worked as a Project Leader for Development Aid from People to People in Guinea Bissau and Angola and as a Country Director in Zambia, and thus comes with over 3 decades of rich multi-country experience in the development sector. Under Snorre’s leadership Humana People to People India has adapted development approaches that are holistic, scalable, sustainable, empowering and effective. He is a staunch advocate of broad-based participation in socio-economic development, and among other activities spearheads HPPI’s programs in 10 States under the PPP (Public Private Partnership Model) in Education with the vision to empower the knowledge base of the public schools and teacher training institutes. His efforts in HPPI have also resulted in the exponential growth of HPPI’s skills in the areas of women empowerment, agri-livelihoods, skills training, natural resource management, health and financial inclusion. He was a member of the development team of the Mindspark product, which is a technology-based, personalized and adaptive learning tool for Mathematics and Language. He led the operations of the Mindspark Centres in urban slums of Delhi and Mindspark’s subsequent deployment in government schools of Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh. At EI, Pranav has also overseen various large scale student assessments done in Bihar, Haryana and Tamil Nadu and was invited by the Ministry of Human Resource Development to be part of the RMSA’s Joint Review Mission. Pranav has spoken extensively on various panels in India and the USA on various subjects such as student assessments, educational technology, and the critical need for a Science of Learning as a pre-requisite to ensure students learn with understanding. Vansh Saluja is a youth politician based in New Delhi. His family were refugees from Pakistan who came to India after the partition in 1947 with barely anything. His family’s struggle has encouraged Vansh to follow his passion for education. He is the Co-founder of the NGO iLead Change Foundation. He had the opportunity to attend the Youth Forum at the 14th United Nations Conference on Trade and Development in Nairobi, Kenya in 2016. During the conference, the main theme of discussion was better educational opportunities for young people. Vansh had the privilege of being a co-panelist with the Deputy Secretary General of UNCTAD during the same conference. He has spoken at various conferences and summits in 14 countries. Vansh is one of the youngest members to be appointed as a social worker in the school management committees that work on improving learning conditions in local government schools. Vansh has closely worked with the Ministry of Education to improve the public education system and bridge the learning gap between private and government schools. As a young leader from a country poised to be the world’s youngest nation by 2020, Vansh’s vision is to build an education system where the young can maximize their potential. Bharti Foundation was set up in 2000 with a vision ‘to help underprivileged children and young people of our country realize their potential’. The Satya Bharti School Program, its flagship initiative, aims to provide quality education, free of cost, to underprivileged children in rural India, with a special focus on the girl child. Continuing on the tradition of contributing towards the nation’s agenda, the Foundation initiated ‘Satya Bharti Abhiyan’ in 2014, to improve sanitation facilities in Ludhiana District. It has now extended its footprints to Amritsar District. ‘Nyaya Bharti’ was launched in 2015 to provide legal and financial assistance to deserving underprivileged under-trials languishing in jails across the country for petty offences. As the CEO of Bharti Foundation, Vijay has played a key role in project expansion and enhancement of quality standards and system efficiency, while constantly keeping the team morale high to deliver their best in challenging circumstances. He has led the development of the organization and its education programs at primary, elementary and senior secondary standards. Through his experience, clear vision and strategic thinking, he has also been able to establish a successful and replicable model of Public Private Partnership. The Satya Bharti School Program provides free quality education to over 45,000 children from marginalized communities in rural areas, through its 254 schools (249 primary/elementary and five senior secondary schools) across six Indian states. Under Vijay’s leadership, learnings and best practices of the Satya Bharti School Program have been taken to the Government schools, under the aegis of the Satya Bharti Quality Support Program and Satya Bharti Learning Centre Program. While the aim is to improve the overall quality of the schooling experience, his guidance has broadened its scope from running its own schools to engaging deeply with the Government and mentoring Government schools to enhance the quality of education through need-based interventions. The Learning Centre program brings out of school children back into schools and ensures continued quality education for children. Through its education initiatives, the Foundation has till date impacted over 3,00,000 students, engaged 12,000+ educators across 2,025 schools, in 3700+ villages in 13 Indian states. While the focus remains on quality education, Vijay also spearheads the Foundation’s ‘Satya Bharti Abhiyan’ and the ‘Nyaya Bharti’ initiatives. Through Satya Bharti Abhiyan, there has been a remarkable improvement in household sanitation facilities and in the provision of toilets for girls in the Government schools, targeting the focus area of rural and urban Ludhiana in the first phase. Approx. 18,000 individual toilets have been handed over in Ludhiana, including 14 girls’ toilets in Government schools identified by the Punjab Education Department, benefitting more than 87,000 individuals. With ‘Nyaya Bharti’ the primary objective is to provide legal and financial aid to underprivileged undertrials and first time offenders accused of petty offences, in addition to increasing awareness on their legal rights. Vijay has over forty years of professional experience in different fields. He has served in the Indian Army for twenty years and has headed some of the leading corporates in the travel and hospitality industry. It was his innate desire to contribute to society in a meaningful and substantive way that drew him from the corporate world to the Foundation. His army background has inspired many processes and events to inculcate a sense of patriotism and integrity within the school program. A graduate from the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, Pune, India and the Canadian Forces Command and Staff College Toronto, Canada; Vijay has also completed his M.Sc. in Defence Studies from Madras University.
