there's an interesting symbiosis i noted from this week's biannual 5000 person unctad summit in geneva and the much less public ITU
most big projects guterres is interested in have a hub link inside unctad (and remember jack ma is youth envoy to unctad)- most of the first 1000 non-chinese students at the new alibaba university are being chosen by unctad
the project leaders of the ITU UNCTAD and special tech report guterres has asked eg jack ma and melinga gates to produce all know each other and clearly come to geneva often
the chinese head of the ITU enjoys a 8 year term through to 2022 - in other words i believe china and un are partnering on lot of tech oriented sgd projects https://www.itu.int/web/pp-18/en/ - the constitution of the IMF requires it to move to beijing by 2022
remember too that while the hq of world economic forum is geneva, its summer summit is always in china and it has started one of its first 3 industrial revolution 4 hubs out of beijing (the other two are tokyo and san francsico)
in geneva there is a sense that tech is at many tipping pomts but this can be a positive thing if citizens/students demand it
some of us have been intermittently meeting for over 15 years now discussing where can tech help communities thrive- if we dont map the next 18 ,omths now ie the next one and half student yeeas that end with jack ma massive expo celebration at tokyo olympics then we may never sail of sustainabliity's boat
